How to track follow-ups

Set a follow-up date on any logged conversation and get a task for that day.

Up to date as of GigTools version 2.1.03

Every entry in a Communications log can say whether you need to follow up, and by when. GigTools turns that into a task, so nothing slips.

1. Set a follow-up

  1. Log a conversation (or click Edit on one). See How to log calls, emails and meetings.
  2. Under Follow-up, choose Follow up on. The date starts a week after the conversation; change it to any day.
  3. Click Add to log (or Save). You'll see "Added to the log, with a follow-up task."

GigTools adds a task like Follow up with Dana Smith: March date, due that morning. It goes on the Tasks list for the person who logged the conversation, linked to the contact, their company and the gig (if any).

  • A phone call makes a call task.
  • An email makes an email task, with a Write email button to draft the follow-up.
  • Anything else makes a to-do.

2. See where things stand

Each entry with a follow-up shows a badge:

  • Follow up by Mon, Mar 9 (or Follow up today) while it's open.
  • The same badge in red once the date has passed.
  • Followed up in green when the task is ticked off.

3. Change or cancel it

  • Pick a new date on the entry and save: the task moves to the new date.
  • Choose No follow-up needed and save: the task is closed.
  • Remove the entry: its open task is closed too.

When you've followed up, tick the task on Tasks, then log the new conversation, with its own follow-up if you need one.

See How to use tasks and to-dos.
