How to turn on two-step sign-in

Ask for a 6-digit code after your password, from an authenticator app or by email, so a stolen password isn't enough.

Up to date as of GigTools version 2.1.222

With two-step sign-in on, you enter a 6-digit code after your password (or after Google or Microsoft). Someone who learns your password still can't get in.

Turn it on

  1. Click your name at the bottom of the menu to open My settings, then the Sign-in tab.
  2. In the Two-step sign-in card, pick one:
    • Use an authenticator app (safer): in Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password or a similar app, add an account and scan the square code. Can't scan? Type the key shown under it. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and click Turn on.
    • Email me a code: we email a 6-digit code to your sign-in address. Enter it and click Turn on.

Signing in with it on

After your password, the One more step page asks for your code. With an authenticator, open the app and type the current code (they change every 30 seconds). With email codes, a code is sent straight away; click Email me a new code if it doesn't arrive. A code works for 10 minutes.

Turn it off or switch

On the Sign-in tab, click Turn off in the Two-step sign-in card. To switch between an app and email, turn it off, then turn it on the other way.
