How to take card payments from clients
Connect Stripe so clients can pay deposits and balances by card from a link.
Up to date as of GigTools version 2.1.03
With card payments on, every unpaid deposit and payment on a gig gets a pay link. Your client opens it, pays by card through Stripe's secure checkout, and GigTools marks the payment paid for you. Money goes straight to your own Stripe account; GigTools takes no cut. Stripe charges its standard card fees.
Card payments are included on some plans. If yours doesn't include them, the Client payments tab shows an upgrade note.
1. Connect Stripe (owners and admins)
- Open Settings › Organization and click the Client payments tab.
- Click Connect Stripe. Stripe opens.
- Create a Stripe account or sign in to yours, and fill in your business and bank details.
- When you're done, Stripe sends you back to GigTools.
If you see Stripe is connected. Clients can now pay by card., you're set. If Stripe still needs details, click Finish Stripe setup to continue where you left off. Check status asks Stripe again.
If GigTools says Card payments are almost ready. Please check back in a few days., card payments aren't switched on for GigTools accounts yet. Nothing is wrong with your account; try again later.
2. Send a pay link
- Open the gig and go to the Money section.
- Under Deposits & payments, add the deposit or payment with its amount and due date if it isn't there yet. See How to track a gig's money.
- Click Copy pay link next to an unpaid payment and send it to your client.
You can also put the merge field {pay_link} (Pay-by-card link, next payment due) in an email template. The balance email GigTools drafts for a gig includes it too.
3. When the client pays
They see the amount, event and due date and click the Pay … by card button. Once the payment goes through, the gig shows Received with the date and "online", and the pay link stops asking for money.
Turn it off
On the Client payments tab, click Disconnect, then Yes, disconnect. Pay links stop working until you connect again. Open Stripe dashboard takes you to Stripe for payouts and refunds.
Test organizations can't take payments. Their pay links show as samples.
