How to keep a mileage and tax log

Log round-trip miles to every gig, see your mileage deduction at the IRS rate, total income and expenses by type, and download it for tax time.

Up to date as of GigTools version 2.1.76

Mileage & taxes (under Business in the menu) gathers what your tax preparer will ask for, for a year of booked and completed gigs.

1. Set your home base

Under Settings at the bottom, type your home base: a ZIP code, or a city and state like Phoenix, AZ. Leave Rate per mile blank to use the IRS business rate for the year (72.5¢ a mile for 2026, 70¢ for 2025), or type your own. Owners and admins change these.

2. Check the miles

Each gig shows its round-trip miles from your home base. Grey numbers marked est. are estimates: the straight-line distance times 1.25 for roads, there and back. Type the real miles from your odometer or a map to replace one, then click Save miles. Clear a box to go back to the estimate. Gigs with a flight in Travel aren't estimated.

3. Read the totals

  • Miles and Mileage deduction (miles × the rate).
  • Gross and expenses from each gig's money.
  • Income by type and Expenses by type, from the gig's line items (fees, door share, merch, travel and so on).

4. Download it

Click Download spreadsheet for a CSV with every gig, its miles, the totals and the money by type. Open it in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets, or send it to your tax preparer.

This is a record, not tax advice. Ask your tax preparer what you can deduct.
