How to sell tickets to your own show

Sell tickets on your show's event page: buyers pay by card through your Stripe account and get QR tickets by email. Add ticket types, extras, codes and comps, check people in at the door, and refund.

Up to date as of GigTools version 2.1.169

On the Member plan and up, you can sell tickets to shows you produce yourself. You're the seller: buyers pay your Stripe account, and the money goes straight to you. GigTools adds a small fee per paid ticket.

Before you start

  • Connect Stripe under Organization › Payments (free tickets work without it).
  • On the gig, turn on This is my own show (the Production card), and make the show public (the Public event page card).

1. Add ticket types

On the gig's Ticket sales card, click Edit, then + Add a ticket type:

  • Name and Price (0 for free), like General admission $25 or VIP $45.
  • How many (leave it empty to share the show's capacity), a Description, and when it's On sale from and Until (good for early-bird prices).
  • Hidden ticket types only show to buyers with a code.

2. Set up the sale

Open Sale settings:

  • Tick Sell tickets on the event page.
  • Sales start and Sales end (empty: on sale now, until the show starts).
  • Capacity for the whole show, and Tickets per order.
  • Fees: buyers pay the GigTools fee at checkout, or you pay it out of the ticket price.
  • Sales tax %, and whether prices already include it.
  • Age restriction and Refund policy: both show to buyers.
  • Click Save. A Tickets box appears on the event page.

Extras, codes and comps

  • Extras (meet and greet, merch, a drink) are sold with tickets. Pick Money goes to an act when it's theirs (for example, meet-and-greet money); the sales card shows how much is theirs.
  • Codes take a percent or dollars off each ticket, can be limited to some ticket types, a number of uses and an end date, or only unlock hidden ticket types.
  • Comp tickets cost nothing and have no fee. Pick the reason, and for an act's guests, the act. Set each act's guest list in Sale settings to cap their comps. Add an email address to send the tickets.

What buyers get

Buyers choose tickets on the event page, enter their name and email, and pay on a secure Stripe page. They get an email with one QR code per ticket, and a tickets page where they can see the codes, get the email again, contact you and ask for a refund.

At the door

Click Door check-in on the Ticket sales card (on a phone works best). Tap Scan tickets with the camera and point it at each QR code, or search by name. Each ticket gets in once; it says if a ticket was already used, refunded or is for another show. Tick extras as you hand them over. Everyone on your team can check people in, and the count updates for all of them.

Sales and money

The card shows tickets sold, comps, checked in, what buyers paid, refunds, GigTools and Stripe fees, sales tax, and what's yours. Sold tickets count on your Production profit and loss. On the Agency plan, Put on the settlement sheet fills its ticket tiers, with comps. You get a daily sales email while tickets are selling (turn it off in Sale settings).

Refunds and changes

  • Refund an order from Orders. The buyer is emailed, the seats go back on sale, and the GigTools fee is refunded too. Refund requests from buyers show there and as a task.
  • Email everyone with tickets sends a message to every ticket holder, for example a new show time.
  • Cancel the show and refund everyone stops sales, refunds every paid order and emails every buyer. It can't be undone.

One show with two performances sells one set of tickets; name ticket types by show time (like "7:30 show") if you sell them separately.
