How to run an open mic sign-up list

An online sign-up page for an open mic or showcase: first come or a lottery, a waitlist when it's full, a bringer rule, and the list on the night to run from your phone.

Up to date as of GigTools version 2.1.187

Any show can have an online sign-up list for comics. It's part of the Venue plan.

Start the list

On the gig, click Open mic sign-up list on the Room card, then Start a sign-up list. Click Copy the sign-up link and share it in your mic group or on social media. Comics don't need an account.

Settings

Under Sign-up settings:

  • Spots and Minutes each.
  • How spots are given: first come, first served, or a Lottery. With a lottery, everyone who enters is drawn in random order at the time you set (or click Draw the lottery now); the first ones get spots, the rest go on the waitlist.
  • Sign-up opens and closes (optional).
  • Bringer: how many people each comic brings (0 for none). It shows on the sign-up page, and you note what each comic brought on the night.
  • Rules, shown on the sign-up page.

How comics sign up

They enter their name, stage name, email and phone. They see their spot (or their waitlist number), and get a link to check it or take their name off. When someone on the list drops out, the first person on the waitlist moves up. The sign-up page shows the list by stage name.

On the night

The list is in order. Tap Up now and Done as comics go up, use the arrows to change the order, Bump to end to move someone down, No-show for people who don't turn up, and Move to the list for someone on the waitlist. Add walk-ups at the bottom. With a bringer show, enter how many each comic brought; short ones are marked. Print the list gives you a paper copy.
